SUMMARY:  Animal Law encompasses the statutory and case law in which  the nature- legal, social, biological- of nonhuman animals is an important factor.  It encompasses companion animals, wildlife, and animals used in entertainment, research and animals raised for food.  This presentation will discuss how the law treats animals in the following areas:  contracts, civil lawsuits, criminal law, estate planning, and dangerous dog statutes.

Jennifer A. Dietz, Esq.


Jennifer A. Dietz, Esq., attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate studies in English and graduated with highest honors.  She then attended the University of Florida College of Law and graduated in 1991, where she was President of her class.  While in law school, she clerked for two insurance defense firms in Jacksonville and was a Pupil member of the Chester Bedell Inn of Court.

She has spent the majority of her legal career as an insurance defense litigator for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies.  Prior to working as in-house counsel she was selected by Attorney General Robert Butterworth to handle civil ligation matters on behalf of the state and its agencies. 

She is currently a solo practitioner and her practice focuses on Animal Law.  She is also an adjunct professor at Stetson University College of Law where she has taught the Animal Law Seminar for 10 years.



Jennifer is a frequent speaker around the state and nation at Bar Association meetings, law schools, television talk shows, the SPCA, the Humane Society, private charitable organizations, civic organizations, and animal-related organizations. Her writings have been published in several animal-related publications. 

In 2013 through 2015, she was instrumental in converting the Animal Law Committee to section status.  In 2016, Jennifer was awarded the Excellence in Animal Law by the Animal Law Section of The Florida Bar for her work in promoting animal law throughout Florida.


Jennifer served as Chair of the Solo and Small Firm Section of The Florida Bar in 2016-2017.  She is a founding member of the Animal Law Section of the Florida Bar. Currently she serves on the Executive Council of the Animal Law Section and the Solo & Small Firm Section of The Florida Bar. 


Jennifer is an identical twin.  Jennifer and her twin have gone on dates with the other twin’s college  boyfriends to see if they could tell them apart.


Jennifer shares a home with her husband John, her daughter 20-year-old daughter Olivia, two rescued Pit Bull/Labrador mix dogs, and two rescued cats.

At this time, since the University Club is not able to accommodate our in-person Monthly Membership Luncheons due to the COVID-19 constraints for our health and safety, we are offering to both TBPA Members and Guests the opportunity for 1 CLE Unit Credit via Recorded Video Presentation. Once the University Club is open to full capacity, we will continue to offer a Video Only RSVP Registration option at a special rate to both Members and Guests, however, limiting the number to 2 registrations in any given year for Guests since this will be a new TBPA Membership Benefit. We encourage you to join TBPA and enjoy the many benefits membership offers. Please keep healthy and we hope to see you soon!

TBPA is no longer accepting reservations via email or mail. 

TBPA reserves the right to change/substitute speakers, presentations, or topics as necessary due to unexpected circumstances. Cancellations for paid-in-full registrations prior to the RSVP Deadline will be refunded.  After the RSVP Deadline, no refunds will be provided and payment in full will be due since the process of providing secured video link with cle certificate will have commenced.
