Vegetarian Entrée Portobello Mushrooms, Roasted Tomatoes over rice with an Herb Butter Sauce

Dessert:  Chef's Choice of Mini Dessert or assorted brownies and cookies

Entrées served with Salad, Rolls, Iced Tea, Coffee and Mini Dessert.  (No Substitutions Please)

University Club Attire Requirement: The University Club asks that attendees adhere to their attire requirements of business casual to semi-formal while attending the TBPA function at The University Club. The Club asks that no t-shirts, tennis shoes, flip-flops, shorts, or blue jeans be worn. If any of these items are worn, you may be turned away by The University Club and no refunds will be offered or given.  Jackets are encouraged, but not officially required.  It is quite common to see formal wear in  the restaurant since they are fortunate to be visited often for special occasions.  Please note that modifications to dress code will be made for any person with a medical condition.


TBPA is no longer accepting reservations via email or mail. 

TBPA reserves the right to change/substitute luncheon speakers, topics or entrées as necessary due to unexpected circumstances. Cancellations for paid-in-full reservations prior to the RSVP Deadline will be refunded.  After the RSVP Deadline, no refunds will be provided and payment in full will be due regardless of attendance. Cancellation correspondence MUST be sent to monthlycle@tbpa.org.


PARKING: Please note that parking in the Fort Brooke parking garage (corner of Whiting & Franklin) is at the rate of $2.00 per hour, unless otherwise updated by the Fort Brooke parking garage.  The University Club does not validate parking.  On the third floor of the parking garage, take the walkway to One Tampa City Center. The University Club is on the 38th floor.

Nita Serrano, ACP, RP, FRP, AACP


SPEAKER'S BIO:  

Nita Serrano, ACP, RP®, FRP, AACP, is a Litigation Paralegal in Tampa, Florida working in the area General Casualty handling all aspects of cases from case inception through trial preparation and participation.  Nita has been a paralegal for most of her adult life, four of those years as a freelance paralegal and most recently working at La Cava Jacobson & Goodis.  Nita specializes in the areas of civil litigation, insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, nursing home, general negligence, criminal and family law.

 

Prior to becoming a Paralegal, Nita worked for two large Tampa Bay Area Hospitals as a Certified Health Unit Coordinator in the Emergency Room/Trauma Center, Transplant, Orthopedic, Cardiology, ICU/NICU/PICU, and Maternity Floors.  This experience provided the training necessary to communicate effectively with experts and medical professionals, as well as understand medical records and medical terminology.

 

Nita earned her Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies from Florida Metropolitan University in 2000, her designation as a PACE Registered Paralegal (RP®) from the National Federation of Paralegal Associations in March, 2007; her designation as an American Alliance Certified Paralegal (AACP) from the American Alliance of Paralegals, Inc. in September, 2019, Florida Registered Paralegal in May, 2020, National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) Certified Paralegal (CP) in October, 2020 and NALA Advanced Certified Paralegal (ACP) in Trial Practice in October, 2020.

 

Nita has been a member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA) since 2005. She is currently serving as Board Advisor for the NFPA Board of Directors.  She served as NFPA President from 2018-2020; as well as two terms as the Vice President & Director of Paralegal Certification 2014-2018.  She also served as the Marketing/Public Relations Coordinator, Certification Study Materials Coordinator under the NFPA Vice President & Director of Paralegal Certification; and CLE Co-Coordinator under the NFPA Vice President & Director of Profession Development.   Nita has been a member of the Tampa Bay Paralegal Association, Inc. (TBPA) since 2006, and has served various leadership roles including, Director, Second Vice President, President Elect, President and Board Advisor.  She was TBPA’s first Paralegal Certification Ambassador.  She has also chaired and served on various committees, including the Annual Seminar, Pro Bono, Luncheon, Education & Professional Development, Public Relations Committee and the 10th Anniversary Celebration Committees.  Nita has been a member of the Florida Alliance of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (“FAPA”) since 2013, and served as President in 2014.  Nita has been a member of National Association of Legal Assistants (“NALA”) since 2020. Nita has also served on the Hillsborough Community College, Paralegal Advisory Board since 2010.

 

Nita has been a volunteer with Wills for Heroes, Dress for Success, and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, for several years.  She is also Master Guardian ad Litem for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Florida representing the best interests of children in dependency and foster care.

 

Away from work, Nita can usually be found reading, spending time with her family and their furry family members, two Yorkshire Terriers and three cats.
