TOPIC  Fiduciary Access To Digital Assets Act: How Technology is Changing Florida Law

SUMMARY: This presentation will focus on the recently passed Fiduciary Access To Digital Assets Act Chapter 740 (2017) of the Florida Statutes, including which types of digital assets are covered by the act, key terms and players, and a checklist of items to consider for updates to Durable Powers of Attorney, Wills, and Trusts.  The presentation will also discuss the Florida Electronic Wills Act which passed the Florida legislature in 2017, but was later vetoed by Governor Scott.  Understanding the critical role digital assets play in estate planning is important for everyone.  You can’t miss this one!

Cancellations for paid-in-full reservations prior to the RSVP Deadline will be refunded, subject to a $2.00 administrative fee.  After the RSVP Deadline, no refunds will be provided and payment in full will be due regardless of attendance. Cancellation correspondence may be sent to luncheon@tbpa.org.

Parking: Please note that The Tampa Club validates parking in the Bank of America parking garage during lunchtime hours for the discounted $2.00 rate.  Please bring your parking ticket with you and have The Tampa Club Receptionist validate it for you.

Rob Walton is a practicing attorney in Tampa, Florida.  He focuses his practice in the areas of Estate Planning, Probate & Trust Administration, Probate & Trust Litigation, and Guardianship.  Rob is a 2010 Stetson Law grad and is active in the Hillsborough County Bar Association and the Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar.  He is a 2015 graduate of the Hillsborough County Bar Leadership Institute and is passionate about helping the elderly population of Tampa Bay.  He regularly provides pro bono services through Bay Area Legal Services and believes that pro bono work is an opportunity to ensure access to justice.  Rob lives in Tampa with his wife, Katie, their son, Easton, and dog, Tucker.
