Pro Bono - Wills for Heroes

TBPA paralegals have partnered with the Hillsborough County Bar Association, in conjunction with the national Wills for Heroes Foundation, to ensure the success of the Wills for Heroes program for Hillsborough County, Florida.

The Wills for Heroes programs provide essential legal documents free of charge to Hillsborough County’s first responders and their spouses or domestic partners, including wills, health care advance directives and durable powers of attorney. Qualified first responders include firefighters, police officers, paramedics and corrections and probation officers from federal, state, county, city and town departments and agencies. By helping first responders plan now, they ensure their families' legal affairs are in order before a tragedy hits. The Wills for Heroes Program is supported by the Hillsborough County Bar Association and donations from the community.

The Wills for Heroes Program always welcomes new volunteers.

For more information on how you can participate, please email our Pro Bono Chair.

5K Pro Bono River Run & Judicial Pig Roast

This year's Annual 5K Pro Bono River Run and Judicial Pig Roast was held on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Pictures will be posted once available.

Last year's Annual 5K Pro Bono River Run and Judicial Pig Roast was held on Saturday, April 13, 2019.  It was a windy and surprisingly hot, but otherwise a beautiful day for this event. See pictures below.

The event was established years ago to promote and support pro bono legal services in Hillsborough County.  The event continues to grow.  Local judges, attorneys, law students, paralegals, and friends of the legal community participate by pledging pro bono hours and/or contributing to pro bono projects.

Booths are free and TBPA's booth, "Paralegals of the Caribbean" received a lot of positive comments that our booth looked FANTASTIC!  TBPA was well represented by the following Board Members:  President, Barbara O'Shaughnessy; First Vice President, Valerie Cisco; and Directors: Nichole Parsons, Lance Cochran-Lafleur, and Rebecca Wilt.

Polly the Parrot quickly became Nichole's sidekick for the day!

The wee little pirates were treated to "fish & chips" (goldfish & potato chips) and they got to dig for pirate lollipops, skull & cross-bone dog-tag necklaces, and doubloons in our pirate treasure chest!

We'd like to give a great big THANK YOU to our Board of Directors,

who made our pirate themed booth possible, and to the attorneys who provided us with their names and email addresses for future involvement with TBPA!

We look forward to getting even more potential new speakers next year!

Even Pirate Pete was on hand to display our TBPA SWAG BAG as we "plundered and pillaged" the day away!
